Rep. Jasmine Crockett, an outspoken Democrat from Dallas, has filed to run for Senate. Meanwhile, Colin Allred dropped out of the race to pursue the U.S. House instead.
Crockett filed to join the Democratic primary for Senate on December 8, according to CBS News. Meanwhile, former congressman Allred left the race, opting to run for Congress District 33 in Dallas County.
The congresswoman said she planned to base her decision on “facts & not feelings… historical data, trends, etc.,” in a December 4 post on X:
It is hilarious to me that me saying that I will announce what I plan to do on 12/8, like I’ve been saying is scaring the heck out of so many people. The attacks are hilarious… note to those that don’t know how politics works… only the threat gets attacked 🤷🏾♀️.

The Federal Elections Commission database did not show Crockett’s filing at the time of the initial announcement. The Dallas Express reached out to the agency, and they directed DX to this filing.
Republican Gov. Greg Abbott predicted Crockett would get “pummeled” in the race, as The Dallas Express previously reported.
Some surveys have shown Crockett leading in a Democratic primary due to high name recognition. Yet, several senior Democratic officials have suggested she could be among the least competitive options in the general election.
“Jasmine Crockett’s shenanigans are an embarrassment to Texas,” said RNC Spokeswoman Delanie Bomar in a statement. “Everything’s bigger in Texas – except her ability to win this race.”
Crockett recently drew public scrutiny for a $3,047 lien against her Dallas condo, as The Dallas Express reported. This wrapped up a contentious year for Crockett, with $110,000 in unreported debt and undisclosed ownership in at least 25 pharmaceutical, fossil fuel, and marijuana companies. She also spent nearly $75,000 in donor money on luxury hotels, transportation, and security.
Earlier this year, Crockett attacked Abbott as “governor hot wheels” – referencing his use of a wheelchair following a 1984 accident, as The Dallas Express also reported. In 2023, she also called Texas a “deplorable” state.
Crockett recently urged Allred to abandon the race and run for governor instead.
Allred dropped out of the race on December 8 – instead, running for Congress in Congressional District 33. He said Texas Democrats’ trust has “deeply moved” him.
It’s official! I’ve filed to run to represent the newly drawn Congressional District 33. I’m humbled by the opportunity to fight for the community I was raised in by my single mom and where I’m now raising my family.

“I’ve come to believe that a bruising Senate Democratic primary and runoff would prevent the Democratic Party from going into this critical election unified against the danger posed to our communities by Donald Trump and one of his Republican bootlickers Paxton, Cornyn, or Hunt,” he wrote in a press release.
Allred will likely challenge Democratic Rep. Julie Johnson to represent the district, which stretches across the heart of Dallas County.
