A new survey of likely Texas voters has found that incumbent U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz is leading Democrat challenger Colin Allred by 2.1 percent.

According to the survey—conducted jointly by the University of Houston and Texas Southern University—93 percent of both Cruz (R-Texas) and Allred likely voters reported that they are absolutely certain about their pick between now and the November election.

Seven percent of both candidate’s supporters suggested that they might change their minds as the election nears.

While Cruz maintains a lead over Allred overall, the survey found that Allred—the current representative of Texas’ 32nd congressional district—has a lead over women while Cruz dominates him amongst men.

Allred’s lead over Cruz among women is 49 to 42 percent, and 52 percent of men support Cruz compared to Allred’s 39 percent. Allred also maintains a lead with black Texans and Latino Texans, while most white Texans intend to vote for Cruz.

An investigation was announced this week by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton into allegations that nonprofit groups were registering noncitizens to vote outside offices of the Department of Public Safety.

“I think the allegations are deeply concerning and look forward to seeing what Attorney General Paxton’s investigation uncovers,” Cruz told Texas Scorecard as he began a re-election tour around the state on Friday.

Recently, the U.S. Border Patrol union announced its endorsement of Cruz. National Border Council President Paul Perez stated that Cruz has visited the border multiple times and has a comprehensive understanding of the issues facing Texans.

“He’s been a strong advocate for us,” Perez said. “He’s gone out with the men and women. He’s worked out there with us on midnight shifts. He knows exactly what we need, and he knows how to keep us safe on the border, making sure that we can keep everybody safe on the border.”

Yesterday, Cruz blasted Allred on social media for not answering questions at the Democrat National Convention about whether or not he supports Kamala Harris’ economic plan.

Instead of answering whether he agrees with price fixing, Allred said that he hopes the reporter has a great time at the convention.

“Can’t Comment Colin at it again,” posted Cruz on X. “He’s an unserious, radical candidate who refuses to answer basic questions. What is he hiding?”

The survey also focused on who Texans plan to vote for in the November presidential election. According to its report, former President Donald Trump is leading Democrat nominee Kamala Harris by 4.9 percent—with 49.5 percent intending to vote for Trump and 44.6 percent planning to vote for Harris.

“96% of Harris voters and 92% of Trump voters indicate they are certain about their vote choice, with only 4% and 8% of their respective supporters saying they might change their mind,” the survey reads.
