(Texas Scorecard) – A new poll shows that 53 percent of Texas voters believe Democrat presidential nominee Kamala Harris will raise taxes.

The poll of General Election voters also showed that 48 percent prefer Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump over Harris, who has a 43 percent approval rating. Released on Monday by Texans for Fiscal Responsibility, the poll was conducted by CWS Research.

It also asked voters in the General Election questions about issues that relate to the state of Texas.

One question addressed funding for border security. Voters were asked if they thought Kamala Harris and Democrats would increase, decrease, or maintain the current spending on border security. While 26 percent of voters said Harris and Democrats would increase funding, 38 percent said Harris would lower the funding, and 26 percent said they thought the current spending level would be maintained.

Another question pertained to taxpayer-funded lobbying, which 67 percent of voters responded that taxpayer-funded lobbying should be banned. Six percent said the practice should not be eliminated, while 27 percent said they were unsure.

Over 75 percent of voters voiced their support for Texas lawmakers passing legislation preventing China from purchasing land in Texas. Only 13 percent of voters were against the idea, and 11 percent were unsure.

Another question posed to voters was that of funding for water infrastructure development as lawmakers in the state have been discussing the need for it.

Voters were asked if the funding for water infrastructure development should come from the state’s base budget or from surplus dollars that would usually go to property tax relief. Fifty-three percent said funding should be from the state’s base budget, while 30 percent said the state should use surplus money.

“Texas voters are fiscally conservative; they know property taxes are skyrocketing, and they want the Texas Legislature to focus on common-sense reforms that put citizens first,” said Andrew McVeigh, TFR’s president. “As the election ends, Texas lawmakers should be getting ready to come to Austin with a reform agenda of real property tax relief, fiscal responsibility, and other pro-taxpayer reforms that ensure Texas is the best place for American families, workers, and businesses.”
