Houston police are seeking the parents of a baby found abandoned and crying near an apartment complex on Tuesday.

Police responded to the complex at 10300 South Wilcrest Dr. around 12:40 p.m. and found the baby alone and crying near an iron fence on the complex perimeter, according to a department tweet. He had minor injuries to his mouth, police said, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

No missing person report was filed, the tweet read, and no one has claimed the baby. He is currently in Child Protective Services’ custody.

Police initially believed the baby boy was about six to 10 months old, but in an update on Wednesday, the department announced that a family member positively identified the baby, and HPD now knows the boy is 12 months old.

Despite the positive identification, police are not releasing the boy’s name until his parents are located.

HPD clarified that the parents do not face any charges at this time. Moreover, the search for the boy’s parents continues, and anyone with information is asked to call the Houston Police Department at 713-884-3131.
