An off-duty Texas Deputy with the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office was shot to death in a drive-by shooting while on his way home to his family on Sunday night.

Police said Deputy Omar Ursin, 37, of Atascocita, had just picked up food for his family when a dark-colored four-door sedan drove alongside him, and the occupant opened fire, witnesses told investigators.

The shooting took place near Madera Run Parkway and Timber Forest in Atascocita. The suspect vehicle left the scene traveling northbound on Olympic National Drive.

Officers responded to a call about a shooting in Atascocita. They discovered Ursin had been shot and wounded inside his vehicle, which had crashed into a tree in the median, according to reports.

Ursin was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

A press release from the Harris County Sheriff’s Department explained, “we are in utter disbelief and unable to comprehend this senseless act. Deputy Ursin was a colleague, a friend, a brother and so much more.”

“We ask that you pray for Deputy Omar Ursin’s family, friends, and all of us who are devastated by the loss of our brother,” the Harris County Precinct 3 Constable’s Office said in a Facebook post.

“Rest In Peace, Deputy Ursin; we’ve got it from here.”
