Last Thursday, 10 players got lucky on tickets bought across Texas, including several in North Texas.
In a rare and impressive occurrence, 10 jackpot-winning tickets were sold in the Texas Two Step lotto draw held on April 6.
By matching all four of the drawn numbers — 6, 15, 24, 33 — as well as the bonus — 6 — each player got a piece of the whopping $1.55 million jackpot.
Winning ticket holders have 180 days to claim their prize, which amounts to approximately $155,000 before the mandatory 25% tax is applied.
You’d think that a winner would jump at the chance to claim their prize, but that isn’t always the case.
Currently, there is a winning Powerball ticket whose $1 million award still hasn’t been claimed, as The Dallas Express reported. It was purchased in Paris, Lamar County, for the drawing on October 22. The prize expires on April 20.
The Texas Two Step is a popular lottery game in Texas. It costs $1 to play and drawings are held twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
Players choose four numbers between 1 and 35 and a bonus number between 1 and 35. To succeed in the jackpot, players must match all five numbers drawn in the lottery.
According to the Texas Lottery, the winning tickets were sold in nine different cities across the state, including Carrollton, Duncanville, Fort Worth, Cedar Park, Lubbock, San Angelo, San Antonio, Tyler, and Houston, which sold two.
Yet that’s not the only reason why this particular drawing is remarkable.
“What makes this rare occurrence even more impressive is that nine of those 10 jackpot-winning tickets were self-picked numbers – only one was a Quick Pick,” explained Gary Grief, who is the executive director of the Texas Lottery, per Fox 4. “It was truly a lucky night for last Thursday’s Texas Two Step players.”
This is the second time in the game’s 22-year history that 10 players have matched all five numbers in a single Texas Two Step lotto drawing. The first instance of this occurrence was on August 10, 2006, when 10 players split a $700,000 jackpot.
