The search for Tanner Hoang, a Flower Mound resident who attended Texas A&M University, came to a tragic end on Christmas Eve.

After a weeklong search in Austin, Hoang was found dead not far from where his vehicle was recovered two days earlier, according to the Amber Alert Network Brazos Valley (AANBV).

AANBV works with regional law enforcement and family members of missing persons on any missing person incident, even if the circumstances do not qualify for an Amber Alert, according to their website.

“So sad to state that Tanner’s family reports that he was found deceased today in Austin not far from where his vehicle was recovered. Certainly not the outcome so many people had hoped for. Please keep Tanner’s family in your prayers during this difficult time,” a tweet from AANBV read.

Hoang was reportedly found dead near Pennybacker Bridge on Loop 360 in Austin, not far from a hiking trail that leads to the bridge.

The 22-year-old was reported missing by his family when he missed a lunch planned that afternoon in College Station.

His family had come to see Hoang graduate; however, Texas A&M University said that Hoang had not qualified to graduate and was not included in the commencement ceremony.

Rusty Surette, a news anchor from KBTX who covers breaking news in the Bryan, Texas, and College Station area, reported on his Twitter account that the Austin Police Department has taken over the investigation.

A spokesman for the family released a statement.

“This is not the outcome that we have all been praying for, but on this Christmas Eve, Tanner is now in the arms of his Savior, King, Prince of Peace, Joy and Healer,” the statement read.

No foul play is suspected.
