A massive alligator weighing 400 pounds and measuring 11 feet long was captured while walking through a Texas neighborhood on Monday.

The alligator was found in Katy, Texas, Fox 26 reported, which is around 30 miles away from Houston.

Calls to detain the large animal were answered by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, with the help of the Bayou City Gator Savers. The alligator had to be lifted with a tow truck, and it was relocated to an area close to Beaumont.

The Houston Chronicle reported that Fort Bend County Precinct 1 Constable Chad Norvel said that it is unusual for such a large alligator to be found in the area.

On September 12, Norvel shared, “This morning around 7:40 a.m. dispatch received calls that an alligator was walking along Peek Road about 50 or 60 yards south of Buffalo Bayou. He was caught by licensed trappers from Texas Parks and Wildlife and is being taken to a sanctuary in El Campo.”

The alligator was safely captured and relocated with no harm to him or any of those involved.

A Texas resident and restaurant owner in Missouri City had his own run-in with an alligator at the end of August, as previously reported by The Dallas Express. The man, Mike Trinh, wrangled the alligator into the back of his truck before releasing it in a nearby pond.

Alligators found in Texas tend to avoid humans whenever possible, according to Texas Parks and Wildlife, but when they are spotted, it is recommended that people contact professionals for help.
