The Rowlett Police Department recently named Michael Denning as its new chief of police, praising the veteran officer as an “innovative leader” able to deal with the challenges of policing a rapidly growing community.

In a news release on August 1, Rowlett’s City Manager, Brian Funderburk, described Denning as “an exceptional leader with a proven track record of accomplishments” who will serve the community well.

Denning said it will be an honor to serve the Rowlett community and police department, stating, “I look forward to engaging a wide variety of stakeholders and working collaboratively with the department to implement nationally recognized best practices, reduce the crime rate, and enhance the safety and quality of life for our residents and visitors.”

Denning has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, including a decade in leadership roles. His most recent position was Deputy Police Chief in Henderson, NV, the state’s second-largest city, with more than 350,000 residents.

Denning received his bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice at the University of Nevada-Las Vegas and is pursuing a master’s degree in Organizational Leadership at National University.
