Most motorists’ worst nightmare occurred on Sunday when an improperly secured boat flew off its trailer in a single-vehicle wreck in Fort Worth on Interstate 35 West.
The white Ford F-250 pickup truck towing the boat was cruising near State Highway 170 on August 14 when it crashed into a concrete barrier and managed to come to an abrupt rest on top of it.
The sudden deceleration caused the boat to launch off the trailer, crush the pickup’s back passenger compartment, and land on the same barrier several yards ahead of the pickup. The trailer also became unattached from the vehicle due to the force of impact.
The driver managed to survive the crash without serious injury and did not require medical attention at the scene.
Fort Worth police officers responded to the incident around 6:30 p.m. Parts of the freeway had to be shut down for hours.
Three wreckers were required to remove the pickup truck, boat, and trailer from the interstate.
It is unclear what led to the initial crash that jettisoned the boat off the trailer. Still, police claimed that the boat was not properly secured to the trailer.
As of Monday, the make and model of the boat had not been made public.
