Local fire officials believe lightning from Wednesday’s storm caused several house fires.

The first two fires occurred in Frisco, about 25 minutes apart.

Frisco Fire Department arrived at the first fire scene in the 1100 block of Chestnut Drive around 5 p.m. Residents called authorities after hearing a “loud explosion.”

The home suffered extensive damage from the blaze, and one firefighter was injured; details of his injuries are unknown.

Then, 25 minutes later, officials responded to another Frisco fire, this time in the 12700 block of Possum Kingdom Drive. This home also suffered substantial damages.

Around 6 p.m., in North Richland Hills, a fire started in the 8400 block of Patrick’s Path. No residents or North Richland Hills officials were injured in this third fire of the evening.

Lightning is believed to have caused all three fires. With only trace amounts of precipitation recorded for the entire month of July, Wednesday’s storms finally ended DFW’s 67-day stretch with no measurable rainfall.
