Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham is urging residents to join Veterans Day celebrations at state veterans’ homes across Texas, with events scheduled on November 7 and November 11.

The announcement highlights the state’s commitment to honoring military service members through public ceremonies at six Veterans Land Board facilities.

Events begin on Friday, November 7, with a veterans’ parade at the Watkins-Logan Texas State Veterans Home in Tyler. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m., with the lineup beginning at 9:30 a.m. at 11466 Honor Lane.

Five additional ceremonies are scheduled for Veterans Day on Tuesday, November 11.

The Tuskegee Airmen Texas State Veterans Home in Fort Worth will host its ceremony at 11:00 a.m. at 2200 Joe B. Rushing Road. The facility honors the legacy of African American military pilots who fought in World War II.

Similar 11:00 a.m. ceremonies will occur at the Clyde W. Cosper Texas State Veterans Home in Bonham, located at 1300 Seven Oaks Road.

Two facilities have scheduled 10:00 a.m. starts: the William R. Courtney Texas State Veterans Home in Temple, located at 1424 Martin Luther King Jr. Lane, and the Alfredo Gonzalez Texas State Veterans Home in McAllen, located at 301 E. Yuma Avenue.

The Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring will begin its ceremony at 10:30 a.m. at 1809 Highway 87.

All events are open to the public and do not require a reservation. The Texas General Land Office manages these facilities through its Veterans Land Board, which provides long-term care services to eligible Texas veterans.

Buckingham, who serves as Veterans Land Board Chairwoman, became Texas’ first female Land Commissioner after winning the election in 2022.
