Two weeks after the mass shooting at an elementary school in Uvalde, four of the 17 children and adults injured are still being treated in hospitals across San Antonio.
As of June 6, a 10-year-old girl remains in serious condition and a 66-year-old woman is in good condition, according to the University Hospital in San Antonio.
On May 24, 18-year-old Salvador Ramos killed 19 children and two teachers at the Robb Elementary School and injured several others before being fatally shot by law enforcement.
Prior to the massacre at the school, the suspect shot his grandmother at her residence. She is the 66-year-old victim being treated at University Hospital.
On June 4, the hospital announced the release of a 9-year-old girl in a tweet.
Two adults wounded in the incident are still in good condition at Brooke Army Medical Center, the hospital reported on May 30 via Twitter.
“We continue to pray for comfort and strength for all affected by this terrible tragedy in the weeks and months ahead,” said the facility.
At Methodist Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, a male child was also treated. The child was released on May 29, according to a spokesperson.
Funerals for the deceased victims began last week and will continue over the next couple of weeks.
Maite Rodriguez and Amerie Jo Garza, both 10 years old, were laid to rest on May 31 by their families.
The funeral services for one of the teachers, 48-year-old Irma Garcia, and her husband, who died of a heart attack two days after the shooting, were held on June 1.
The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District’s superintendent announced last week that students would not return to Robb Elementary School. The students will instead be transferred to other campuses.
After the 2012 attack on Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut, the Uvalde tragedy is now the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history.
