A Fort Worth police officer was fired five months after allegedly assaulting his wife during an off-duty “domestic disturbance.”
Corporal Mark Force was charged with the alleged assault in June, stripped of his policing powers, and placed on restricted duty while an administrative investigation was conducted.
The department concluded that Johnson broke a number of Fort Worth Police Department policies, and Force was subsequently fired by FWPD Chief Neil Noakes.
Force was an eight-year veteran of the Fort Worth police department and was reportedly assigned to the crisis intervention team.
The Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution of the assault case.
Force’s termination was the third firing in the last two weeks and one of more than half a dozen in the Fort Worth Police Department this year.
Fort Worth Police Officer Benjamin Johnson was fired last Thursday following an administrative investigation by the FWPD.
Johnson had been charged with three counts of alleged aggravated assault in May in Benbrook, Texas. The officer was off-duty at the time of the incident.
Johnson, who had been on the force for five years and served on the direct response unit, was suspended after a grand jury indicted him on the assault charges. His firing followed the conclusion of the internal investigation.
“Until this process has concluded, we ask the public not to rush to judgment,” Johnson’s attorney Robert Huseman said in a statement. “Officer Johnson is a former Marine and a devoted police officer who has dedicated his life to protecting and helping others.”
Other Fort Worth Police Officers have been either fired or investigated for allegedly drinking alcohol on duty, domestic violence, family violence, and DWI charges.
