Strong floodwaters created by heavy rains over North Texas last week claimed the life of a local woman and a man in two separate incidents.
On Wednesday and Thursday, heavy downpours caused flash flooding in some areas, resulting in dangerous conditions for motorists.
On June 1, shortly before 4 p.m., 911 callers reported that a man who appeared to have injured legs was trying to obtain assistance on Southwest Parkway and Bellaire Boulevard, prompting firefighters to respond.
The man and his wife were in a ravine off Fox Avenue near Creekside Drive when the water began to rise following afternoon storms, according to officials.
The man said his wife and his bike were washed away by the floodwaters. He stated that he fractured his legs trying to get away from the water, according to a news release from Lewisville officials.
He was transported to Medical City Lewisville for treatment, where he is expected to make a full recovery.
Firefighters in Lewisville began searching for the missing woman in the Fox Creek Greenbelt Park area near Timber Creek. Carrollton fire crews assisted in the search.
Lewisville teams discovered the unidentified woman’s body in some brush and trees along the creek bed near the 400 block of Misty Lane two hours later.
Neither the man nor his wife’s names have been released. Officials said the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will disclose the woman’s identity at a later time.
The city of Lewisville had the highest rainfall totals across the metroplex last Wednesday and Thursday, receiving an estimated 4.95 inches of rain, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
In Arlington, 22-year-old Saneil Antonio Singh died after being pulled from his car by firemen Friday night. His vehicle was swept away in fast-moving floodwaters along Webb Ferrell Road, near Webb Community Park on the city’s south side, according to firefighters.
The victim was taken to the hospital, where he died.
