When President Donald Trump announced “America First Refining” in Brownsville, Texas, he thanked Reliance, India’s largest private energy company.
“America is returning to REAL ENERGY DOMINANCE,” Trump posted on Truth Social on March 10. “Thank you to our partners in India, and their largest privately held Energy Company, Reliance, for this tremendous Investment.”
America First Refining, which resulted from a $300 billion deal, marks the first new U.S. oil refinery of its scale in nearly 50 years. Trump said he expects the project – backed by Mumbai-based Reliance – will bring thousands of jobs to South Texas.
“It is because of our America First Agenda, streamlining Permits, and lowering Taxes, that have attracted Billions of Dollars in Deals coming back to our Nation,” Trump wrote.

Reliance is an Indian Fortune 500 company specializing in energy, petroleum, retail, digital services, “new energy” and materials, and media and entertainment. It also aims for “net-zero carbon.”
“Our belief ‘What is Good for India is Good for Reliance’ has shaped our ambitions and actions every day since inception,” the firm’s website reads.
America First Refining announced March 10 it had received a “9-figure investment” valued at 10 figures from an unnamed “global supermajor” – one of the world’s largest oil or gas companies. It also signed a 20-year “offtake term sheet,” ensuring the global firm will purchase, process, and distribute energy from American shale oil.
The company expects to break ground on the new refinery in the second quarter of 2026.
“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership and the resurgence of an America First energy policy, we are creating thousands of high-quality jobs while ensuring more of our nation’s energy resources are refined here at home in the cleanest, most efficient refinery on the planet,” said America First Refining Chairman and Founder John Calce in a press release.
Trump said the deal was “MASSIVE WIN for American Workers, Energy, and the GREAT People of South Texas.” He added this would boost American markets and energy production, strengthen national security, deliver billions of dollars, and serve as the “cleanest” refinery in the world.
“It will power Global Exports, and bring THOUSANDS of long overdue Jobs and Growth to a Region that deserves it,” Trump wrote. “This is what AMERICAN ENERGY DOMINANCE looks like. AMERICA FIRST, ALWAYS!”
