First Lady Cecilia Abbott celebrated the recent success of her Holiday Wishes program, which has fulfilled the holiday wishes of over 5,300 Texas children in foster care.
The Holiday Wishes initiative, made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Governor’s Commission for Women and the State Agency Council, demonstrates the power of community-driven support in Texas, and what Texans can collectively accomplish for kids in need.
For young people in foster care throughout a 31-county region in Central and South-Central Texas, Holiday Wishes has become a cherished source of comfort during the holiday season.
Through the efforts of Partnerships for Children, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting children and families involved with Child Protective Services, and the generosity of state agency employees, these foster children woke up on Christmas morning to find gifts under the tree.
“There is no greater example of Texans helping Texans than providing support for foster and adoptive families in Texas during the holiday season.” First Lady Abbott said in a press release.
The Governor’s Commission for Women, a champion for women’s empowerment in Texas for over 50 years, has been instrumental in making the Holiday Wishes program a reality. The program’s mission is to provide access to resources and tools to enable Texas women and girls to live healthier, more productive, and more prosperous lives.
The State Agency Council has been instrumental in the program’s success, offering critical support to the Governor’s Commission for Women and providing its members with valuable training opportunities to enhance their skills and expertise.
A key partner in the Holiday Wishes initiative, Partnerships for Children has brought a wealth of experience and expertise to the whole effort’s collective table. Since its founding in 2003, the organization has been dedicated to serving the needs of children and families involved with Child Protective Services in Texas, providing them with essential support and resources during times of need.
In response to the program’s success and Texans’ efforts to help kids over Christmas, First Lady Abbott added, “Every child deserves to know the promise of hope and the joy that Christmas brings.”
