Paramount Pictures has tapped Ferris, a city of about 5,000 located 20 miles south of Dallas, as a key filming location for its new Yellowstone spinoff, Rio Palo, city officials announced on August 8.

The series, part of creator Taylor Sheridan’s expanding Yellowstone universe, will shoot at various sites around Ferris, with one undisclosed location serving as the primary residence for the show’s main characters.

Ferris, long recognized for its Ferris Brick Company — whose bricks have paved streets and built schools and courthouses nationwide — expects the production to bring economic benefits and national visibility. The project, overseen by King Street Productions LLC, has coordinated with local government, law enforcement, and regional partners to manage permits, insurance, and security needs.

Local businesses and service providers are also involved, though a filming start date remains unannounced.

“This is a proud and fun moment for Ferris,” City Manager Brooks Williams said in a social media statement. “Ferris helped build Texas and the nation. Ferris bricks are in streets, schools, and courthouses across this country. But that is just part of who we are. Ferris has never settled for being one thing.

“This city has evolved, adapted, and grown. Paramount’s decision to film here is one more chapter in that story. It affirms that a place with roots can still move forward, that a city shaped by history can also shape what comes next. We are proud of what this means for Ferris and proud to show others what we already know. We are just getting started.”

The Rio Palo announcement adds to Sheridan’s growing footprint in North Texas, where he has filmed projects like Landman and the 1883 prequel in and around Fort Worth.

While other spinoffs, such as a potential Four Sixes Ranch series and a Kayce Dutton-led “Y: Marshals,” have been reported, the role of Rio Palo in the Yellowstone franchise remains unclear.
