Leylani Ordonez, the 1-year-old girl who was the subject of an AMBER Alert sent from Rosenberg, is dead after allegedly being stabbed by her father early Wednesday morning, according to law enforcement officials.
Her father, Alexander Barrios Ordonez, 24, is also dead after he reportedly turned the knife on himself.
Before she disappeared, Leylani was last seen shortly after 6 p.m. Tuesday. The Rosenberg Police Department (RPD) stated that her father had kidnapped her.
Ordonez allegedly stole a tow truck after stabbing the driver. He then drove to Brooks Avenue, near 1st Street, where Leylani was being watched by her babysitter. He took Leylani with him to an unknown location.
At about 2 a.m. Wednesday, said the Sugar Land Police Department, officers spotted Ordonez driving the stolen truck near University and Highway 6, near an H-E-B store.
After being signaled to pull over, the driver refused to stop. A car chase ensued, which ended an hour later in Rosenberg after one of the assisting police departments put out spike strips.
Reportedly, Ordonez got out of the tow truck holding the baby in his arms, said police.
“We don’t know the exact moment when the baby was injured. But we do know that when he exited the vehicle, the baby was already bloody,” RPD Lt. Suni Jugueta said. “Don’t know if it happened right before he exited the vehicle, but we know it didn’t happen when he exited.”
The father proceeded to stab himself after getting out of the car.
KHOU 11 News spoke with the daughter of the tow truck driver who was initially stabbed on Tuesday evening.
She explained that Ordonez was a former employee of her father’s but had only worked together for less than four months.
It was not clear whether Ordonez had been fired from the job or if he had quit.
