Two people are dead after an early morning fire Sunday in Haltom City.

At 3:55 a.m. on December 4, the Haltom City Fire Department (HCFD) and neighboring fire departments were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the 3200 block of Rita Lane.

In a matter of minutes, the first unit arrived at the scene, where crews discovered smoke and flames billowing from the residence. Firefighters moved quickly to begin search and rescue operations and bring the fire under control.

Search crews carried one adult male and one adult female out of the home. The man died at the scene. The woman was transported in critical condition to Parkland Hospital, where she later died, HCFD Deputy Chief Fred Nap told The Dallas Express.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends affected by this tragic event,” the HCFD stated in a media release about the fire.

The cause of the fire, which is believed to have started in the attic, is still under investigation, according to Nap.
