Harris County deputies’ wrangling skills were tested over the weekend after a local woman discovered an unlikely intruder “camping out” in her home.

Mark Herman, Harris County Constable for Precinct 4, said in a social media post that deputies responded to a home in Devonshire Woods in Spring, Texas, after receiving reports that a deer had broken in through a window. An image from the post shows officers removing the deer from the home, carrying it out by its legs.

Courtney Hawk, the homeowner, told ABC 13 that she had been visiting her boyfriend over the weekend, and when she returned home Sunday evening around 5 p.m., she discovered the deer in her house. Hawk said the deer had “Kool-Aid manned” into the home through the front window.

“I just walked in the house here and opened my pantry. I opened my door, and right here, kind of past where my stove is, was a deer just staring at me,” said Hawk, per ABC 13.

The deer left blood stains all over the house from the superficial cuts it sustained when it crashed through the window. Hawk said her neighbors had witnessed the deer breaking into the home the previous day and had seen a buck chasing it at the time.

Deputies attempted to coax the deer out of the home, but the deer evaded them and ran into a bathroom. They then decided to knock on the bathroom window in an attempt to scare the deer out, but that tactic was not successful.

Eventually, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office livestock unit was called in to tranquilize the deer. After the deer was removed from the home, it was given an antidote for the tranquilizer and was safely reintroduced back into the wild.

Hawk said that, although her home suffered some damages, she will not be pressing charges against the animal.
