The Prosper community is supporting a cheerleader who was seriously hurt during practice. Haylee Alexander, 15, was injured with a traumatic brain injury during practice for her competitive cheer team last Monday.

Pink and turquoise ‘Haylee Strong’ signs have been put up in several Prosper yards, and on Friday night, about 150 people attended a prayer service outside Medical City Plano, where Alexander remains in the ICU.

“Haylee is the type of girl you dream of having as your daughter and you hope your child finds a friendship like this in their lifetime,” said neighbor Mallory Roberts. “For example, my daughter had surgery a few weeks ago. Haylee came over and just sat with her all day and supported her. That’s what we want to do for them.”

Alexander is a cheerleader for Prosper’s JV cheer team but was practicing with her competitive cheer team on August 22 when she suffered a traumatic brain injury.

She was rushed to the emergency room at Medical City Plano, and friends and teammates have been waiting anxiously for any updates from the hospital, knowing there is likely a long road ahead.

“I drive her to school every day, so the first day she didn’t get in the car with us was a void,” Mallory Roberts said.

The injury comes almost one year after fellow Prosper High School cheerleader Makayla Noble was paralyzed in a freak backyard tumbling accident.

Noble attended Friday’s prayer service, posting an update to her more than 130,000 Instagram followers.

“This week has thrown us back into September of last year, and we feel so much for Haylee’s family. It breaks our hearts to know another family in our town is going through this,” the post reads.

Reagan Roberts, one of Alexander’s many friends, also attended the prayer service.

“She’s always there for you. Anytime you need it she’s always there and she always checks up on you,” Roberts said. “Everyone needs a Haylee.”

“Pray. Pray for Haylee and pray for her family,” Roberts added.

Family friends said Alexander is a highly talented cheerleader, calling her a “cheerlebrity.”

Her competitive cheer team was grand world champions last year, and she even made an appearance on America’s Got Talent.

“This is not a sprint. This is going to be a marathon,” family friend Tatum Curry said. “She has always wanted to cheer in college,” Curry continued, “And I have no doubt she will accomplish that goal.”

“Everybody is stepping up, and people are willing and want to help right now,” Curry said.

“Speaking with her mom, every time she sees a ribbon or a shirt, she knows Haylee is loved,” Mallory Roberts said. “People are thinking about her and praying for her, so that’s what we want.”

‘Haylee Strong’ t-shirts are being sold, with all the proceeds going to the Alexander family. Already, 1,400 shirts have been sold, raising $35,000 for the family.
