Southlake residents near a bottling plant were evacuated on Wednesday as a fire caused significant damage before it was deemed “under control” some 90 minutes later.
The Southlake Department of Public Safety said the fire, which began around 1:23 p.m. on August 17, involved structures owned by Dalden Corporations in the 4000 block of T.W. King Road. The two metal structures endangered by the fire had chemicals inside, said a department spokesperson.
At 1:31 p.m., Southlake DPS tweeted a warning, saying multiple fire trucks and other emergency vehicles would be in the area, and multiple roads would be closed.
Crews evacuated residents on Silver Spur Road, Southfork Road, and West Bob Jones, and two nearby schools were asked to shelter in place. Carroll ISD said The Clariden School and Walnut Grove Elementary were put into a shelter-in-place protocol, and students were sent home at noon.
Although hazmat crews evaluated the chemicals inside the affected structures, no report was given on what chemicals were inside.
No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
