A man drowned in Grapevine Lake on Monday, May 31, according to the Grapevine Fire Department.

Tarrant County medical examiners identified the man as Israel Rivas Ascencio, 33, of Irving.

Grapevine firefighters responded to a call about a man who had jumped into the lake from some rocks near Katie’s Woods Park and had not resurfaced.

The Grapevine dive team had to be brought in to conduct a proper search. They recovered Ascencio’s body around 7:30 p.m. near the shore, about an hour after firefighters first arrived.

Ascencio’s body was in roughly 6 feet of water, according to officials.

The Texas Game Warden plans on investigating the incident.

As of Thursday, June 2, no further details have been provided to the media.
