On Sunday, a kayaker found the dead body of a man floating in the south end of Lake Arlington and reported it to police via a 911 call.
Police do not know how the man died and are currently investigating the matter.
At around 10:30 a.m. on July 17, a kayaker found the body floating in a small body of water called Village Creek. The creek lies along Interstate 20, and the body was found floating between Bowman Springs Road and Southeast Loop 820.
Officers from the Arlington Police Department and firefighters with the Arlington Fire Department jointly responded to the 911 call. The Arlington Fire Department’s dive team ultimately recovered the body.
When officials examined the body, they could not find anything on it that might have pointed to a clear cause of death. There were no apparent injuries or suspicious marks on the body.
Furthermore, the police were also unable to locate anything near where the body was found — such as a natural hazard or a dropped weapon — which might have provided clues about how the man died. Investigators did not find anything in the creek itself or on the surrounding bank which might be of help in answering these questions.
To further add to the mystery surrounding this case, there were no distinguishing marks, documents, or other forms of identification on the body. As such, the man’s identity currently remains unknown.
The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has taken the body into its custody. Officials at the office plan to conduct an autopsy on the body to determine the cause of death and to possibly aid authorities in discovering the man’s identity.
