The bodies of two youths believed to have gone missing last month were discovered in a wooded area near New Caney, Texas, on Sunday.

Roman Forest police found a severely decomposed body in the woods and called the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office to assist with the investigation. During an extended search, a second body was found in the trunk of a nearby car.

Authorities quickly linked the vehicle to the May 25 disappearance of two area youths, an unidentified 20-year-old male and 19-year-old Meaghan Madison Leach.

Roman Forest police officers responded to a human remains call around 10:23 a.m. Sunday near the intersection of Fairway Drive and Putters Green Street.

Officers found the male’s body in the final stages of decomposition along the wood line.

RFPD called Montgomery County Sheriff’s office to assist with the investigation, and when MCSO arrived, they found the late model blue BMW linked to the couple’s disappearance.

On June 1, RFPD posted a Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office press release on Facebook stating Leach was last seen at her home and believed her to be in danger.

“It is believed that Leach may be a victim of human trafficking, and the pair may be en route to either the Harris County or El Paso areas of Texas, Mexico, or Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana,” the posting read.

The bodies were taken to Montgomery County Forensics Office for identification and autopsy.

This remains an active investigation. Police have not determined any motive or confirmed the circumstances of the deaths but add they do not believe there is any danger to the public.
