Attorney General Ken Paxton has sharply criticized the Scientific Report of the 2025 Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee.
The Scientific Report was released by a committee appointed by former President Joe Biden. The committee’s recommendations were called “absurd” because they ignored the nutritional value of red meat and other animal-based foods.
In a recent press release, Paxton argued that the report’s dismissal of traditional protein sources like beef, instead promoting plant-based alternatives like peas and soy, is politically driven and unsupported by science.
“This report was written to appease a left-wing political ideology, not actually help people live healthier lives and combat the chronic diseases that millions of Americans are facing,” Paxton explained.
The report, which serves as the foundation for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Agriculture’s upcoming “Dietary Guidelines for Americans,” influences public eating habits, the “eligibility” of foods for programs such as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), and even impacts school lunch menus across the country.
In an official letter, Paxton joined several other state attorneys general in criticizing the committee’s findings, accusing it of being influenced by a left-wing political agenda rather than prioritizing public health.
The letter also calls on the Trump Administration to reject the recommendations of the Biden-era committee and encourages the President to craft guidelines that better reflect Americans’ actual dietary requirements.
“The demonization of beef and animal-based sources of protein is antithetical to reality, but that’s exactly what you’d expect from a system that has propagated a status quo that has failed the American people for decades,” Paxton added.
Paxton further argued that such recommendations fail to address the widespread health issues faced by millions of Americans and could undermine efforts to combat chronic diseases like heart disease and obesity.
The letter also aligns Paxton with Secretary of Health and Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has called for sweeping reforms to improve Americans’ health. Paxton has expressed his full support for their mission, saying that the dietary guidelines should empower people to make healthier food choices.
“President Donald Trump and Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s mission to help Americans get healthier is absolutely critical at this moment in history, and I’m proud to stand with them as they work to make that happen,” Paxton concluded.
