Apple has announced plans to construct a factory for artificial intelligence servers in Texas as part of the company’s wider $500 billion domestic investment initiative.

The tech behemoth is on track to construct a 250,000-square-foot facility in Houston to produce servers for Apple Intelligence, the company’s AI personal assistant. The factory is expected to be up and running next year.

The plan is part of Apple’s broader initiative to invest half a trillion dollars in the United States. In addition to the news around the planned Texas project, Apple announced it intends to hire roughly 20,000 new employees nationwide over the next four years.

The new hires will largely be brought in to work on research and development, software development, silicon engineering, AI, and machine learning.

“From doubling our Advanced Manufacturing Fund to building advanced technology in Texas, we’re thrilled to expand our support for American manufacturing. And we’ll keep working with people and companies across this country to help write an extraordinary new chapter in the history of American innovation,” Apple CEO Tim Cook said in a statement released on February 24.

News of Apple’s Texas investment comes on the heels of the massive Stargate Project announced by the White House last month. As reported by The Dallas Express, the equally lofty $500 billion initiative is intended to boost AI capabilities in the United States. Texas will also benefit from this private-backed plan, with the Lone Star State to host the first phase of the AI megaproject.

Apple announced that the company currently supports 2.9 million jobs across the United States, with two dozen factories “producing silicon for Apple products.”

With the expansion in Texas, servers previously manufactured outside the U.S. will now be produced domestically. Apple’s broader investment will also see a doubling of its commitment to its U.S. Advanced Manufacturing Fund from $5 billion to $10 billion. The fund, which was created in 2017, supports high-skilled manufacturing jobs in the United States and promotes innovation.

Apple said the company “remains one of the largest U.S. taxpayers, having paid more than $75 billion in U.S. taxes over the past five years, including $19 billion in 2024 alone.”
