(Texas Scorecard) – Nearly 30 illegal aliens were found trapped inside an abandoned trailer in Maverick County.

After receiving a call reporting the incident, deputies from the Maverick County Sheriff’s Office discovered that the illegal aliens had been stuffed inside the trailer and sealed in.

Suspects reportedly fled before law enforcement could arrive.

According to Maverick County Sheriff Tom Schmerber, the trailer was located in the rear parking lot of an Eagle Pass gas station.

Screaming and banging were heard from inside the trailer, which led to the discovery of the illegal aliens.

“Deputies continued to hear subjects knocking and yelling from inside the tanker,” NewsNation Correspondent Ali Bradley reported.

“Deputies then climbed on top of the tanker and began to open the 3 latches, due to the welfare of the subjects inside. Deputies observed several subjects inside of the tanker and summoned Medical Personnel to location for assistance,” she added.

Texas law enforcement continues to crack down on human smuggling operations in Maverick County. One trend Texas Scorecard routinely covers is the occurrence of high-speed chases in the county.

For example, the Texas Department of Public Safety announced the arrest of six illegal aliens following one high-speed chase. The driver of the Ford F-250, which was used in the smuggling effort, was also an illegal alien.

“The smuggler rammed a ranch fence during the pursuit and evaded through the brush,” stated DPS Spokesman Chris Olivarez. “The smuggler continued to drive through numerous ranches, ramming five ranch fences attempting to elude DPS Aircraft.”

“All occupants bailed out and attempted to hide within the brush. With the assistance of DPS Aircraft, #USBP Horse Patrol, and DPS Brush Team, five illegal immigrants and the smuggler were arrested,” Olivarez concluded.
