The Texas Rangers– who have had just one winning month thus far in the 2022 MLB season – have decided to part ways with skipper Chris Woodward with just 48 games left this season.

The team has not yet officially named a replacement, reports MLB.com, but a long list of candidates proposed by the Dallas Morning News suggests former Texas manager Ron Washington– currently with Atlanta– as well as former World-Series-winning skipper Bruce Bochy, could be in the running.

Third-base coach Tony Beasley has been named interim manager for the remainder of the season.

The Rangers are 51-63 this season, good for third place in the AL West and nine games out of a cluttered Wild Card chase. The rumors of Woodward’s departure come a day after Texas took two of three games from Seattle in Arlington, which is only the second series taken by the Rangers since the All-Star break in mid-July.

Woodward took over manager duties in Texas in 2018 as he replaced Jeff Banister at the tail-end of that season. Under his tutelage, Texas is 76 games under .500, with a record of 211-278 over the past four seasons. This season hasn’t seen .500 since June 1 as the Rangers continue to slide down the standings.
