There were plenty of good high school football games across DFW this weekend. Here are some of the notable results:
Southlake Carroll 44, Keller Timber Creek 0
Southlake Carroll had no trouble with Timber Creek as the teams began district play on Thursday. Wide receiver Jacob Jordan had 168 receiving yards and two touchdown catches, while Carroll outgained Timber Creek 460-138.
Frisco Reedy 35, Frisco Wakeland 28
Reedy bested Wakeland for the second straight year. Reedy’s defense forced a turnover deep in its own territory to flip momentum early in the game. Wakeland battled back from a 14-point deficit, cutting it to seven with 1:36 left, but could not recover the onside kick, and Reedy ran out the clock.
Prosper 31, Denton Guyer 28
Prosper gets its 11th consecutive home win and first win over Guyer in six tries. Guyer completed a late heave in the final seconds but was stopped short of the endzone.
Lake Highlands 28, Dallas Jesuit 14
Lake Highlands followed up an upset against Highland Park with a win over Dallas Jesuit to improve to 3-1 on the season and take over first place in District 7-6A. Lake Highlands took an early 14-0 lead, and running back Deonte Dean, contained by the Jesuit defense for most of the game, broke loose to put on the finishing touches as Jesuit attempted to mount a comeback.
Melissa 67, Crandall 28
Melissa had no trouble in its district opener, scoring over 60 points for the second time in four games to improve to 4-0. The Cardinals outscored the Pirates 50-14 between the second and third quarters to put it away early.
Celina 42, Anna 40
Two of the top five teams in 4A played an all-time classic, as Celina pulled out a win in four (!!) overtimes. Celina erased a 17-point first-half deficit with two third-quarter touchdowns to tie the game at 23 and rallied again to send the game to overtime tied at 30. The Bobcats stopped Anna quarterback Ziondre Williams on a two-point play to win.
South Oak Cliff 49, Parish Episcopal 14
South Oak Cliff took the clash of defending state champs. South Oak Cliff got 404 yards from its running game, led by Khalil Ewell and Danny Green, as it improved to 2-2 on the season with a win over one of the premier private school programs in the Dallas area.
