The University of Texas Longhorns softball team will play the University of Oklahoma Sooners in the College World Series Finals beginning Wednesday evening.
These two top-seeded teams will play a three-game series to determine the winner.
The first game of this series is scheduled to begin on June 5 at 7 p.m.; the second will be played on June 6; the third, if necessary, will take place on June 7.
Oklahoma will look to continue its dominance in collegiate softball. The Sooners are seeking their fourth straight championship and their fifth title in the past eight full seasons.
Meanwhile, the Longhorns will be seeking their first softball championship since the program was founded in 1997.
The Longhorns finished their regular season with an overall record of 55-8, finishing with the best record in the Big 12 against conference opponents at 23-4.
Oklahoma finished its regular season with a record of 57-7, which is considered a down year for the program as this was the highest number of losses since finishing 61-9 in 2017.
The Sooners also finished 22-5 in games against Big 12 opponents, which was the second-best record for intra-conference games.
Texas defeated Oklahoma in their regular season series for the first time since 2006, beating the Sooners 2-1 in back-to-back games.
However, Oklahoma got its revenge later in the season, defeating the Longhorns 5-1 in the Big 12 championship game to claim the conference title.
Despite the dominance displayed by each team during the regular seasons, both faced adversity throughout the playoffs as the Longhorns lost 6-0 to Texas A&M in the NCAA Super Regionals.
Texas was one loss away from elimination and trailing 5-1 in the fifth inning of their second matchup with the Aggies before storming back and winning 9-8.
Following their near elimination, Texas has yet to lose another game en route to this championship matchup.
Similarly, Oklahoma lost to the University of Florida 9-3 in the World Series and needed a walk-off home run to defeat the Gators on June 4, which they made. The home run helped propel the Sooners to the College World Series Finals.
