Dallas Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs is reportedly in danger of losing $500,000 due to a lack of attendance during optional workouts while rehabilitating in a different location.

Diggs has been recovering from a knee injury in Miami and has opted against attending optional workouts with the Cowboys over the last two weeks. This means he could forego a substantial amount of money due to a clause in his contract.

This clause states that Diggs must be in attendance for 84.375% of the Cowboys’ offseason program; otherwise, he could be subject to a $500,000 de-escalator, according to ESPN.

Despite Diggs being injured, the clause specifically states that a player “must rehabilitate such injury as required by and under the supervision of the Club’s Head Trainer until such time as full participation in the ‘Off-Season Program’ can be achieved,” per ESPN.

This type of clause is common for the Cowboys to implement as a way to keep players accountable during the offseason. Players such as Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Osa Odighizuwa have similar language in their deals.

Although Diggs has not been in attendance for workouts, he has continued to progress through rehabilitation from knee surgery and is reportedly looking good.

Cowboys Head Coach Brian Schottenheimer addressed Diggs’ recovery earlier this week and said, “All signs are positive” with the process.

“I talked to Trevon last week. He’s down in Miami doing some training. No timeline for his return, but he had to come back a couple weeks ago to get checked out by the doc,” he explained, per The Cowboys.

Diggs is expected to play a major role for the Cowboys next season. After multiple offseason acquisitions, the cornerback room is shaping up to be one of the best positional groups on the team.

In addition to Diggs and Pro-Bowl cornerback DaRon Bland returning to the team next season, the Cowboys added former first-round pick Kaiir Elam through a trade while selecting Shavon Revel in the third round of the NFL Draft.
