High school football around the Dallas-Fort Worth area now enters its second week of the 2023 season. Here are some of the top games on the schedule.

Lewisville (1-0) at Highland Park (1-0), Friday

This is the big 6A game of the week. Highland Park enters the matchup fresh off a 56-24 win over Flower Mound Marcus in its season-opener, while Lewisville routed Garland Naaman Forest 50-7. Lewisville is the No.13 6A team in the state and No.4 in the DFW metroplex, while Highland Park ranks ninth in the area.

Rockwall (1-0) at Dallas Jesuit (0-1), Friday

Rockwall is the 17th-ranked team in the state after a season-opening win over Cedar Hill and faces one of the most consistent teams in DFW. Jesuit began its season ranked among the top 20 6A teams in the Dallas area but lost its season opener to Hebron last week. Despite the Jesuit loss, these are still two of the top teams in DFW and should provide a great game.

Aledo (1-0) at Denton Guyer (1-0), Friday

Defending 5A Division I state champ Aledo was impressive in its season opener, scoring 50 against Parish Episcopal — the top private school in the state. Similarly, Guyer dominated Rockwall-Heath in a matchup of two of the metroplex’s top 6A programs. Aledo has won its last 15 games going back to last season. Can Guyer be the team to stop the streak?

Rockwall-Heath (0-1) at Euless Trinity (0-1), Friday

Speaking of Heath, the Hawks have a challenging matchup against Euless Trinity this week. Trinity took 2022 state semifinalist Prosper to the final buzzer last week, falling by a point as Prosper stopped the final two-point conversion attempt short of the goal line. Despite the losses, both teams appear in The Dallas Morning News’ Top 20 6A rankings in the area as they look to get back on track.

Lancaster (1-0) at South Oak Cliff (0-1), Friday

Two of the best 5A teams in the state face off in South Oak Cliff. Lancaster started its season with a win over Dallas Skyline, while South Oak Cliff, the back-to-back defending 5A Division II state champ, had a rough outing against Duncanville, the state’s best 6A team. Both Lancaster and South Oak Cliff are ranked among the top four 5A teams in DFW, which should make for an exciting game on Friday night.

***

Melissa (1-0) at China Spring (1-0), Friday

The top team in 5A Division II faces the top team in 4A Division I and the defending state champs. China Spring was unstoppable last season and cruised to a 35-13 win in its season opener. Melissa looks to be a contender in 5A this season and dominated Argyle, another top team in the DFW area, 50-14 in its first game of the year.

***

Lovejoy (1-0) at Argyle (0-1), Friday

Lovejoy is tied with Lancaster at No.3 in the DMN’s Class 5A rankings after kicking off its season with a win over College Station. Argyle also remains in the rankings, holding the No.7 spot despite a blowout loss against Melissa last week. Both teams could be contenders when all is said and done, but a win would be more significant for Argyle.

***

Arlington Seguin (1-0) at Red Oak (1-0), Friday

These teams are neck and neck in the DMN’s area rankings this week. Red Oak held off The Colony in a low-scoring affair last week, thanks to a Reggie Moody Jr. touchdown run that capped a 19-play drive in the fourth quarter. Arlington Seguin started its season by knocking off Midlothian — another of the area’s best 5A teams.

***

Ennis (0-1) at Midlothian (0-1), Thursday

Midlothian follows its loss by hosting Ennis, which lost a close matchup to Waxahachie last week. Both teams are looking for their first win of the season as they each face one of the state’s top-tier programs for the second week in a row.
