There was plenty of pro sports action across the metroplex this weekend.

Here is what happened on the field, on the court, and behind the scenes.

MLB

Texas Rangers (41-23, first in American League West)

Last Games: Tampa Bay Rays 8, Rangers 3; Rangers 8, Rays 4; Rays 7, Rangers 3

The Rangers were hit hard by the Rays’ offense, as they lost two out of three over the weekend. Texas managed just three hits in a Friday loss, while Tampa’s Isaac Paredes had a two-home run, six-RBI night. The Rangers held on to get Nathan Eovaldi his ninth win of the year on Saturday, but the Rays jumped on Martin Perez with seven runs in the first four innings to win the series on Sunday.

Noteworthy: The Rangers hold a five-game lead over the Houston Astros in the AL West.

— Shortstop Corey Seager set a new career-high with five hits during a 5-5 performance on Saturday. He also leads the MLB with 29 RBIs since returning to the lineup in mid-May.

— Eovaldi is the fifth pitcher in franchise history to win nine of his first 13 starts in a season and the first since 2010.

MINOR LEAGUE BASEBALL

Frisco RoughRiders (25-31, fifth in Texas League South Division, eighth in AA Texas League)

Last Games: Corpus Christi Hooks 8, RoughRiders 3; RoughRiders 9, Hooks 4; Hooks 7, RoughRiders 5 (11 innings)

— Frisco earns a split of its six-game series with Corpus Christi. Four home runs accounted for seven of the eight runs for the Hooks on Friday, while the RoughRiders’ power earned a win on Saturday. The Hooks came from behind to win in extra innings on Sunday as Luis Aviles Jr. tied the game with a two-run home run in the bottom of the ninth and won it with another in the 11th.

Noteworthy: Infielder Thomas Saggese, the No. 15 prospect for the Rangers, hit three home runs in the series and is now tied with Nick Tanielu for the team lead with seven.

— Frisco is now 2-4 in extra innings games this season and 23-1 when leading after eight innings.

WNBA

Dallas Wings (5-4, second in Western Conference)

Last Games: Wings 90, Phoenix Mercury 77; New York Liberty 102, Wings 93

The Wings won one and lost one over the weekend. Arike Ogunbowale led the team to its second win over the Phoenix Mercury in three days with a 35-point performance on Friday. On Sunday, Breanna Stewart and Sabrina Ionescu combined for 54 points to help the New York Liberty mount a third-quarter comeback and earn the win.

Noteworthy: Ogunbowale has scored at least 20 points in six games this season. She is averaging 22.7 points per game.

— The Dallas bench scored a season-best 24 bench points in Sunday’s loss.

MLS

FC Dallas (7-5-6, tied for fourth in Western Conference)

Last Game: Portland Timbers 1, FC Dallas 0

Portland’s Franck Boli scored the match’s only goal at the 35-minute mark as the Timbers beat FC Dallas on Sunday night. FC Dallas managed just two official shots on goal and has now lost three of its last four matches.

Noteworthy: FC Dallas is tied with San Jose for fourth in the Western Conference.

— The loss gives FC Dallas consecutive road losses for the first time this season. It was also the first time FC Dallas had been shut out since a 2-0 loss to Nashville on May 10.

— Dallas last beat Portland on the road in 2016.
