The local baseball teams were back on the field Thursday night.

Here is what happened on the field and behind the scenes.

MLB

Texas Rangers (14-11, tied first in American League West)

Last Game: New York Yankees 4, Rangers 2

The Yankees scored three times in the second to take a 3-0 lead. After the Rangers cut the lead to one in the sixth, former Rangers prospect Jose Trevino launched a solo home run — New York’s third of the night — to add some insurance, and Michael King shut down the Rangers, in order, to close the game.

Noteworthy: The Rangers lose the first game of a four-game set. Texas has not won a series against the Yankees since 2016.

— Catcher Jonah Heim knocked in the Rangers’ first run of the game for his 18th RBI of the season, which leads all American League catchers.

— Jacob deGrom takes the mound for the Rangers on Friday. He is 2-0 with a 3.04 ERA through his first three starts with the team.

Next Up: Yankees (15-11) at Rangers, 7:05 p.m. CT Friday

Minor League Baseball

Frisco RoughRiders (9-9, third in South Division, fifth in AA Texas League)

Last Game: RoughRiders 5, Amarillo Sod Poodles 1

Frisco earned its second win over Amarillo this season. After allowing a solo home run, Rangers No.11 prospect Tekoah Roby dominated with eight strikeouts across five innings. The RoughRiders tied the game in the fourth, and outfielder Jax Biggers broke the game open with a grand slam in the sixth.

Noteworthy: Frisco has now hit four grand slams this season.

— The RoughRiders held on after surrendering big leads in the series’ first two games. They are 1-2 through the first three games of a 12-game road trip.

— The Frisco bullpen pitched four scoreless innings after allowing 28 runs over the last eight games.

Next Up: RoughRiders at Sod Poodles (10-8), 7:05 p.m. CT Friday

NHL

Dallas Stars (lead series 3-2)
Noteworthy: The Stars are playing their second-ever playoff series against Minnesota and can improve to 2-0 in those series by eliminating them on Friday night.

— The previous playoff series also lasted six games.

Next Up: Stars at Minnesota Wild, 8:30 p.m. CT Friday
