A five-run second inning and a two-run homer in the third put the Rangers down early as starting pitcher Andrew Heaney gave up seven runs and did not make it out of the third inning. Adolis Garcia and Nathaniel Lowe homered for Texas.
Noteworthy: Rookie third baseman Josh Jung has a four-game hitting streak after going 2-4 on Tuesday. He is batting .278 through the first five games of the season.
— Former Rangers starter Kyle Gibson went seven innings against his former club, allowing two runs and striking out five.
— The loss means Texas will lose a series for the first time this season.
— Jacob deGrom will make his second start of the season on Wednesday, hoping to get the Rangers at least one win in the series. DeGrom went three and two-thirds innings and gave up five runs in his Opening Day start against the Phillies.

Dallas Mavericks (37-42, third in Southwest Division, 11th in Western Conference)
Noteworthy: Dallas remains in 11th place in the Western Conference, half a game behind Oklahoma City for the final play-in spot.
— Despite some reports and the slim playoff chances, Luka Doncic is not considering sitting out the rest of the season.
“I’m playing tomorrow,” he told media members after Tuesday’s practice. “When there’s still a chance, I’m going to play. So, that’s not going to happen. There’s little chance; we all know that, but, as long as there’s a chance, I’ll play.”
— Kyrie Irving is scheduled to become a free agent after the season. According to Bleacher Report, the Mavericks still plan to re-sign the guard even though they have a 9-16 record since making the trade.

Noteworthy: Dallas, Minnesota, and Colorado are all tied for the lead in the Central Division with 98 points each. Colorado currently holds the tiebreaker and has played one less game than Minnesota and Dallas.
— The Stars will be playing a team on a four-game losing streak when they host the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday.
