The Dallas Stars began their second-round playoff series on Tuesday. The Texas Rangers started a two-game set with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Frisco RoughRiders traveled to Midland for a six-game series. Here is what happened on the ice, on the field, and behind the scenes.

NHL

Dallas Stars (trail series 0-1)

Last Game: Seattle Kraken 5, Stars 4 (overtime)

Joe Pavelski’s four-goal game was insufficient, as the Stars fell overtime in Game 1 against the Kraken. After allowing four goals in a wild first period, Dallas tied the game and forced overtime as Pavelski scored twice in the third. In overtime, Seattle’s Yanni Gourde gathered a bouncing puck, spun around, and put it right over Jake Oettinger’s shoulder for the win.

Noteworthy: The Stars lost Game 1 in overtime for the second consecutive playoff series. It is also the second time they have lost to Seattle in overtime this season.

Pavelski became the oldest player to score four goals in a playoff game, three years and 50 days older than Maurice Richard was when he accomplished the feat in 1957. Pavelski was the first Stars player to hit the mark since Denis Gurianov in 2020.

Next Up: Kraken at Stars, Game 2, 8:30 p.m. CT Thursday.

Texas Rangers (18-11, first in American League West)

Last Game: Rangers 6, Arizona Diamondbacks 4

The Rangers trailed 4-1 through three innings. A two-run fifth and an Ezequiel Duran home run gave Texas a 5-4 lead through six, and a wild pitch allowed Bubba Thompson to add an insurance run in the seventh. The Rangers’ bullpen pitched 3 2/3 shutout innings to complete the comeback.

Noteworthy: Seven Rangers players recorded hits. Duran went 3-4 with the home run; two runs scored, and two RBIs. He is now hitting .328 this season.

Texas has a 2 1/2-game lead over the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Angels in the AL West.

Third baseman Josh Jung was named American League Rookie of the Month for April. Jung hit .270 with six home runs and 21 RBIs during the season’s first month.

Next Up: Diamondbacks (16-14) at Rangers, 1:05 p.m. Wednesday.

Frisco RoughRiders (12-10, first in Texas League South Division, third in AA Texas League)

Last Game: RoughRiders 11, Midland RockHounds 2

Frisco scored in all but two innings to cruise to an 11-2 win. A Thomas Saggese single gave the RoughRiders the lead in the third, and the team piled on with 15 hits, including a Josh Sale home run throughout the contest.

Noteworthy: Saggese is now on a six-game hitting streak and has recorded three RBIs in the last two games. He is hitting .271 with 12 RBIs this season.

The RoughRiders entered the game leading all Double-A teams with 163 walks and added eight more on Tuesday. Evan Carter walked twice to reach base safely for the 18th time in the 19 games he has played.

Wyatt Sparks threw three scoreless innings out of the bullpen to get the win in his Double-A debut.

Next Up: RoughRiders at Rockhounds (11-11), 6:30 p.m. CT Wednesday.
