The Texas Rangers were the only local team in action Monday, while others used the off-days to improve off-the-field.

Here is what happened on the field and behind the scenes.

Texas Rangers (45-27, first in American League West)

Last Game: Rangers 5, Chicago White Sox 2

Adolis Garcia, Josh Jung, and Mitch Garver helped the Rangers build a 3-0 lead through four innings. Texas kept Chicago off the board until the sixth when Andrew Vaughn and Luis Robert Jr. hit homers to make it a 3-2 game. Jonah Heim knocked in two more in the seventh, and the Texas bullpen delivered another scoreless outing to get the road win.

Noteworthy: The Rangers increased their lead in the AL West to five games over the Los Angeles Angels.

— Andrew Heaney threw more than five innings for the first time since May 27. The lefty allowed two runs on five hits with six strikeouts.

— Jung hit his 15th home run of the season in the third inning Monday, tying Adolis Garcia for the team lead.

Dallas Cowboys (offseason)

Noteworthy: Former Cowboy and current University of Colorado coach Deion Sanders recently told Sports Illustrated that he would not want to coach the Cowboys because he does not want to coach in the NFL, adding that he has “a problem with men getting their checks and not doing their jobs” and many of the league’s current players do not share his “old-school” attributes.

— CBS Sports named the Brandin Cooks trade as Dallas’ best offseason move.
