For those who missed Monday and Tuesday’s local college basketball action, here is what happened.

No.8 Texas Longhorns (22-6, 11-4, T-first in Big 12)

Last Game: No.8 Texas 72, No.23 Iowa State 54

Texas’s three-point shooting led the Longhorns past No.23 Iowa State. The Longhorns made nine of their 16 three-point attempts in the first half as they built a 47-29 lead and shot 42.9% from behind the arc over the course of the game. Guards Tyrese Hunter, Marcus Carr, and Sir’Jabari Rice all made scores into the double-digits in the win.

Noteworthy: Texas picks up a Quad 1 win to improve to 10-6 against Quad 1 opponents this season. The Longhorns have the second-most Quad 1 wins in the country.

No.9 Baylor Bears (20-8, 9-6, T-second in Big 12)

Last Game: No.14 Kansas State 75, No.9 Baylor 65

Baylor blew a three-point halftime lead as it could not stop Kansas State’s Keyontae Johnson and Markquis Nowell in the second half. Johnson finished the game with 25 points and helped lead a 10-3 to give the Wildcats the win. Nowell finished the game with 14 points and made clutch free throws to seal the victory.

Noteworthy: Baylor finishes the season 1-3 against the Kansas schools (Kansas and Kansas State). The Bears’ lone win came against the Jayhawks on January 23 in Waco.

No.22 TCU Horned Frogs (18-10, 7-8, T-sixth in Big 12)

Last Game: No.3 Kansas 63, No.24 TCU 58

Both teams struggled to shoot the ball in a back-and-forth contest. TCU rallied late but could not come up with baskets when it had the chance to take the lead. Freshman Gradey Dick led Kansas with 19 points, and guard Mike Miles scored 13 for TCU.

Noteworthy: TCU is now 4-6 against top 25 teams this season and has split its season series with Kansas for the second year in a row. Monday night’s crowd was also the third-largest in program history.

No.25 Texas A&M Aggies (21-7, 13-2, second in SEC)

Last Game: No.25 Texas A&M 68, No.11 Tennessee 63

Wade Taylor IV and Julius Marble both scored over 20 points as the Aggies handed Tennessee its fourth loss in five games. Tennessee jumped out to an 11-3 lead, but A&M was able to tie it at the half. The Aggies went ahead for good with 15:20 remaining, even as Tennessee continuously closed the gap throughout the contest.

Noteworthy: Texas A&M head coach Buzz Williams gets his second win against Tennessee since arriving in College Station as the Aggies improve to 14-1 at home and 3-0 against ranked opponents this season.

Oklahoma Sooners (13-15, 3-12, last in Big 12)

Last Game: Texas Tech 74, Oklahoma 63

Oklahoma struggled to stop Texas Tech’s Fardaws Aimaq and Jaylon Tyson, who combined for 37 points and 18 rebounds. The Sooners were within three points with just under four minutes to go, but Texas Tech closed the game on a 12-4 run.

Noteworthy: Oklahoma beat Texas Tech earlier this season for its first conference victory, earning a split in the season series.

Oklahoma State Cowboys (16-12, 7-8, T-sixth in Big 12)

Last Game: West Virginia 85, Oklahoma State 67

On Monday, the Cowboys shot under 40% from the field and only 10.5% from three-point range. West Virginia outscored Oklahoma State 26-13 over the final 11 minutes of the first half to build a commanding lead. Guard Erik Stevenson knocked down five threes on his way to a 23-point performance for West Virginia, and Tre Mitchell added 22.

Noteworthy: The loss was just the second in the last six meetings for the Cowboys against West Virginia. The all-time series between the two programs is now tied 12-12.

Texas Tech Red Raiders (16-12, 5-10, T-eighth in Big 12)

Last Game: Texas Tech 74, Oklahoma 63

Fardaws Aimaq and Jalen Tyson were too much for Oklahoma, and Kevin Obanor helped the Red Raiders fight off the Sooners late. Aimaq and Tyson combined for 37 points, while Obanor and guard Pop Isaacs added 11 each.

Noteworthy: Texas Tech is now on a four-game winning streak after a 1-10 start to conference play. That is the longest streak for the Red Raiders since winning six in a row between November and December.
