The University of Texas Longhorns took down No. 6 Oklahoma 23–6 in the 2025 Red River Rivalry, vaulting back into the AP Top 25 and reigniting hopes for their season.

Texas, which dropped from the rankings for the first time since 2022 after a loss against Florida in Week 5, showed up and claimed a statement victory over one of the best teams in all of college football.

Led by a composed performance from quarterback Arch Manning and a dominant showing from the defense, the Longhorns shook off criticism, reclaimed their footing, and made a bold case to once again be taken seriously in the college football landscape.

With the victory, Texas is once again inside the AP Top 25 with an overall ranking of No. 21.

Texas Head Coach Steve Sarkisian commended the players for the performance, saying that it was a testament to their commitment to the team and chemistry with each other.

“I think we saw the true character of the men in that locker room today — their connectivity, their love for one another,” he told ESPN. “It’s easy to succumb to the outside noise. There was a lot of [expletive] getting talked about our team, about these guys. And I think they responded.”

The Longhorns will travel to face Kentucky on Saturday at 6 p.m., followed by a road game against Mississippi State on November 1.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Lone Star State, Texas A&M climbed one spot to No. 4, its highest regular-season ranking since 1995, according to ESPN. The Aggies are 6-0 and will next face Arkansas before back-to-back ranked matchups against No. 10 LSU and No. 16 Missouri.

Finally, Texas Tech secured a ranking of No. 7 entering Week 7, which is a jump from its ranking at No. 9 in Week 6.

The Red Raiders have made headlines in recent weeks following an announcement that the university will update its logo, choosing to move on from the metallic Double T used since 2000 in favor of a more modern look.

As previously reported by The Dallas Express, this decision has drawn mixed opinions from many fans, with many calling the updated logo “plain” and “boring.”

Regardless, the Texas Tech football team has found a rhythm and currently boasts a record of 6-0, with a matchup against Arizona State scheduled to take place this Saturday at 3 p.m.
