The Texas Rangers have posted a strong stretch in recent weeks and maintain hopes for the 2025 MLB playoffs in a competitive American League wild card race leading into the MLB trade deadline.

The Rangers currently hold a 53-50 record, sitting in third place in the American League West division and trailing the Houston Astros by two games and the Seattle Mariners by seven games.

However, the overall divisional standings do not tell the whole story for the Rangers, as the team has put together an impressive stretch in their last 10 games, compiling an 8-2 record while riding a three-game winning streak.

In the broader American League wild-card race, Texas is 1.5 games behind the Boston Red Sox for the final wild-card spot, with the team also tied with the Tampa Bay Rays, as all three teams vie for the final entry into the postseason.

Rangers President of Baseball Operations Chris Young recently discussed the team’s upcoming push for the playoffs, saying that every season is different and can still end on a high note with the right performance to end the year.

“I look back on 2023 and we went 40-20 in our first 60 games. And after that, you know, the next 102 we were two games under .500,” he said, per NBC 5 DFW.

“Every season has a different ebb and flow to it. And my hope is that the next 62 games are our best 62 games of our season. If that’s the case, then we’ll look back and say, hey, the first half of the season wasn’t as much fun as we had hoped, but it was all worth it to get where we wanted to go.”

These comments come just shortly before the MLB trade deadline on July 31, with many wondering whether the Rangers will make a move to pick up a big-name player to help with a late-season push.

Young said the days leading into the deadline will play a major role in how the team handles trades, as a few games in either direction could help determine whether this team has a chance at the postseason.

“If we can continue the progress we’ve shown over the last several weeks … it’s going to determine a lot,” he explained, per NBC 5. “So not to put any more pressure on anything, it’s just the reality of this point in the season, and we’re looking up in the standings.”

The Rangers have just six games remaining on the schedule before the deadline, meaning the team will likely have to accumulate a winning record in that stretch to convince Young to make a move.

These games include a three-game home series against the Atlanta Braves and a three-game road series against the Los Angeles Angels, meaning the team has a real shot to come out with victories in each series.
