The Texas Rangers have announced the formation of the Rangers Sports Network, a new media outlet that will produce and distribute all the team’s games and related content.
According to a press release sent to The Dallas Express, a new business entity called Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company will serve as the parent company for the Rangers Sports Network (RSN) and REV Entertainment, a company launched four years ago as the official sports and entertainment partner of the Texas Rangers.
In a club press release, RSN was described as the “exclusive local television home of the Texas Rangers, overseeing production and distribution for game broadcasts.” The network’s content will be available “within the Rangers TV territory through select broadcast television, cable, satellite, and digital streaming platforms.”
Utilization of this network will allow the club to control the various components of television broadcasting, including the on-air talent, audio and visual resources, technical aspects, and behind-the-scenes management.
The Rangers stated in the press release that Neil Leibman will leave his previous role as the club’s president of business operations and COO to serve as chairman for the Rangers Sports Media & Entertainment Company.
Additionally, long-time front office veteran Jim Cochrane has been promoted to club executive vice president and chief business officer.
Rangers Majority Owner Ray Davis said in the press release that “one of the main goals when seeking solutions for Rangers television broadcasts was to give fans more access to our games,” which has been achieved with this move.
“By forming Rangers Sports Network to address the various production responsibilities for team broadcasts and content, we feel the entity is in a strong position to deliver for Rangers fans as well as execute other potential broadcast opportunities in the future,” he added. “REV Entertainment has served as a valuable asset for the organization since it was launched in 2021, and it will continue to grow under this new structure.”
These new developments come just two weeks after the club announced a streaming partnership with Victory+ that will allow fans to watch the games on the platform for a fee of $100 for the entire season, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Texas has now joined the Dallas Stars in a partnership with Victory+, but the Dallas Mavericks have opted to take a different route, planning to stream games on MavsTV.
