Domino’s Pizza will distribute approximately $1 million worth of free pizzas after United States striker Folarin Balogun received a red card during the U.S. men’s national team’s Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina on Wednesday.
The promotion, announced in May, promised free medium two-topping pizzas to more than 60,000 randomly selected participants if any U.S. player was sent off during the tournament. Balogun’s ejection in the 64th minute triggered the giveaway.
The Promotion
Domino’s launched the “Emergency Pizzas for Red Cards” campaign ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the United States is co-hosting with Canada and Mexico. Customers who registered by June 10, 2026, and were enrolled in Domino’s Rewards became eligible.
In its official announcement on May 18, 2026, Domino’s stated that “If any player from the U.S. team receives a red card in the soccer tournament, Domino’s is here to help soften the blow by giving away $1 million worth of Emergency Pizzas.”
Up to 63,371 winners will now receive a free medium two-topping pizza, redeemable by August 2, 2026. Non-winners receive a 20% off coupon on select items.
The Backstory
The campaign was designed as a lighthearted way to engage soccer fans during the World Cup. Domino’s partnered with Saturdays Football for limited-edition merchandise, including jerseys, caps, and slides. The company framed the promotion around the disappointment of a red card, which results in a player being ejected and the team playing shorthanded.
Balogun, playing for the U.S. in the tournament, was shown a straight red card in the match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, activating the giveaway.
The Winners
Winners will be notified directly by Domino’s. The company has not released exact redemption numbers as of July 2, but the promotion is expected to reach tens of thousands of customers nationwide. Domino’s has not commented further on the financial impact beyond the stated $1 million commitment.
The U.S. men’s national team will next play in the quarterfinals, with the schedule and opponent to be determined following the completion of the Round of 16. Matches are hosted across various U.S. venues as part of the co-hosted 2026 tournament.
