The Southern Methodist University Mustangs are set to take on the Texas Christian University Horned Frogs on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the 103rd ‘Battle for the Iron Skillet.’

This game will be the first time the two universities will match up since SMU joined the ACC. The Mustangs are looking to get their first win against the Horned Frogs since Sept. 25, 2021, when SMU came out with a 42-34 win in Fort Worth.

Both teams currently have a 2-1 record and are looking to bounce back after losses last week, as SMU fell to Brigham Young University, while the Horned Frogs lost in heartbreaking fashion to the University of Central Florida.

SMU has wins this season over Nevada and Houston Christian University, scoring an average of 44 points while only allowing an average of 16.5 points to the opponents in each of those victories.

Meanwhile, the Horned Frogs defeated Stanford University and Long Island University its first two games of the season, displaying an impressive offense with a scoring average of 39.5 points and allowing just 13.5 points in the wins.

Historically, the Horned Frogs lead the Mustangs in this matchup with an overall record of 53-42-7, including a 19-4 record in the last 23 matchups between the two schools, according to TCU.

SMU and TCU each feature players who are among the top of the NCAA in certain statistics, as SMU kicker Collin Rogers is currently tied for the most made field goals in the country with eight made through three games, according to WFAA.

Rogers’ impressive kicking also includes a school record of five field goals against BYU last week, two of which were from deeper than 50 yards, per SMU.

Similarly, TCU wide receiver Jack Bech ranks third in the Big-12 Conference with an average of 116.7 receiving yards per game, largely due to the 200 receiving yards he pulled against UCF, as reported by WFAA.

TCU quarterback Josh Hoover has also shown incredible strides during his sophomore season. According to TCU, he currently ranks third in the nation for passing yards at 1,022 while also leading the country with 119 passing attempts without an interception.
