Soccer star Lionel Messi and Inter Miami CF are coming to Frisco.
Tickets for Sunday’s match at Toyota Stadium go on sale at 11 a.m. CT Thursday and will cost between $199 and $499, with the large majority being sold for $199 or $249.
The Argentinian soccer icon signed with the club last month and made his U.S. debut in Inter Miami’s League Cup-opening win against Cruz Azul (Liga MX) on July 21.
The Leagues Cup pits the 47 MLS and Liga MX teams against each other in a World Cup-style tournament to determine which three teams will advance to the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup. Each team receives three points for a win and one point if the game is tied after 90 minutes, but games cannot end in ties.
After taking first place in the South 3 Group, Inter Miami advanced to the Round of 16 with a 3-1 win over Orlando SC in the Round of 32 on Wednesday, winning its third consecutive game.
FC Dallas finished second in the South 4 Group but will host the match because it had a better 2022 MLS record than Inter Miami. Dallas had a 1-0-1 record in group play, finishing a point behind Charlotte FC in its group, and holds a 2-0-1 record after defeating Mazatlan FC (Liga MX) 2-1 on Wednesday.
The Round of 16 match will be Messi’s first match outside of the state of Florida since joining Inter Miami. The club is 3-0 since Messi has taken the field, and he has five goals in three games, including the game-winner against Cruz Azul in his debut.
FC Dallas will host Inter Miami CF on Sunday at Toyota Stadium in Frisco. A match time has yet to be announced, and the winner will face either the Houston Dynamo, Charlotte, or Cruz Azul, in the quarterfinals, depending on the results of matches yet to be played.
