Week 4 of the Texas high school football season is in the books, and the top-ranked teams from the DFW area are rounding into top form.

Only one DFW-area 6A or 5A team ranked in Dave Campbell’s Texas high school football state rankings lost last week, and that was in a matchup of ranked teams, with No.18 Prosper losing 23-6 to No.6 Denton Guyer.

The top two DFW-area teams in the 6A and 5A-Div. I classifications cruised to victory.

In 6A, No.3 Southlake Carroll shutout Keller Timber Creek 51-0, while No.4 Duncanville eased past Mansfield Lake Ridge 44-6. In 5A Div. I, No.2 Mansfield Timberview rolled past Carrollton RL Turner 63-3, while No.3 Denton Ryan shutout Saginaw 56-0.

Two traditional DFW-area 6A powerhouses remarkably had the same final blowout score against an area rival. No.10 Highland Park and No.12 DeSoto easily dispatched Irving and Dallas Skyline, respectively, with a score of 63-0.

A DFW-area team making its debut in the rankings for the first time this season is Trophy Club Byron Nelson, the No.25 team in 6A with a 4-0 record after defeating Keller Fossil Ridge 55-15 last week. The addition of Byron Nelson gives the DFW-area 11 teams in the top 25 6A rankings.

Below are recaps of some of the biggest games from last week involving ranked DFW-area high school football teams.

6A:
No.6 Denton Guyer 23, No.18 Prosper 6

Guyer used a dominant run game to defeat Prosper for the fifth time in the past three seasons, totaling 259 rushing yards on 50 carries in the school’s District 5-6A opener.

Defensively, Guyer (4-0) held Prosper (3-1) to just 102 yards of offense, six first downs, and 0.56 yards per carry on 27 rushing attempts. Guyer’s five-star quarterback and Oklahoma commit Jackson Arnold did not have to do much, with the running game being so effective he passed the ball just 18 times.

The two schools have met in the regular season and the playoffs each of the last two seasons, with Guyer winning all four matchups. Aside from a 28-point win by Guyer last regular season, each matchup had been decided by six points or less, including one going into triple overtime.

No.9 Allen 52, McKinney Boyd 24

Allen started the game on fire, going up 21-0 in the first quarter. Boyd (0-4) fought back and cut the deficit to seven before halftime, but Allen (3-1) ultimately ran away with it, opening the deficit back to 10 before halftime and winning the second half 21-10.

Allen was dominant in the run game, racking up 382 yards on 38 carries. Kayvion Sibley led the rushing attack with an impressive performance of 210 yards and four touchdowns.

Allen four-star quarterback Mike Hawkins played well, completing 12-of-27 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown while adding 60 yards rushing on seven carries.

No.20 Rockwall 38, South Grand Prairie 31

Rockwall bounced back from a loss to then-No.11 Prosper the prior week by withstanding a 21-point fourth-quarter rally from South Grand Prairie.

Rockwall’s offensive explosion was enough to hold on to the win. The team totaled 558 yards of total offense, of which 401 yards came from passing.

Rockwall quarterback Lake Bennett completed 23-of-29 passes for 370 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. Four-star wide receiver and Clemson commit Noble Johnson was Bennett’s favorite target, as he hauled in six catches for 141 yards and two touchdowns.

5A Div. I:

No.8 Frisco Reedy 41, Frisco Wakeland 37

After upsetting then-No.2 Frisco Lone Star the prior week, Frisco Reedy continues to establish itself as the best in Frisco ISD with a 41-37 win over Frisco Wakeland last week.

Reedy (4-0) is off to its best start since 2018 after finishing just 5-6 last season. Frisco (10-2), Frisco Liberty (10-2), Frisco Lone Star (9-3), and Frisco Wakeland (9-3) all finished last season with better records and were predicted to again be the top 6A teams among Frisco ISD schools.

Wakeland hung tough and threatened an upset, holding a 37-34 lead with under two minutes remaining. Texas Tech commit Kaleb Smith had the game-winning score for Reedy with an 88-yard punt return for a touchdown with 1:30 remaining.
