Sophomore Preston Stout, of J.J. Pearce High School in Richardson, fired a two-day score of 139 to finish as runner-up in the 6A state golf championship.

Battling Day 1 rain delays and overall inclement weather at Legacy Hills Golf Club in Georgetown, Stout fired an opening round 71, followed by an even more sizzling second round 68.

The strong showing is just the latest in a growing string of them for Stout, who in 2020 won a share of the North Texas Classic Boys 15-18 by tying Plano’s Matthew Comegys with an 11-under-par 133 through 36 holes. Stout has competed in the PGA Northern Texas Junior Tour since 2016.
