PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan is taking a temporary leave of absence as he recovers from an undisclosed “medical situation.”

Monahan and the PGA Tour Policy Board released an official joint statement announcing the decision on Tuesday night.

“Jay Monahan informed the PGA Tour Policy Board that he is recuperating from a medical situation,” the statement read. “The Board fully supports Jay and appreciates everyone respecting his privacy.”

“During Jay’s absence, Ron Price, Chief Operating Officer, and Tyler Dennis, Executive Vice President & President, PGA Tour, will lead the day-to-day operations of the PGA Tour with the assistance of the great team Jay has built, ensuring seamless continuity. We will provide further updates as appropriate.”

Monahan has served as the tour’s commissioner since 2017 and was recently named the commissioner of the new entity created out of the LIV Tour and PGA merger that was announced last week, which is now under investigation by the U.S. Senate.

What he is recovering from and how long his leave will last is unclear.

Price has been with the PGA Tour since 1994 and has held various executive positions. According to the Tournament Players Club’s website, his current role gives him “direct oversight of Championship Management, The Players Championship, The Presidents Cup, Communications/Media Relations, Golf Course Properties, Retail Licensing, Finance, People Strategy, Board Governance, and Government Relations.”

The two executives also released a statement on the matter.

“Our thoughts are with Jay and his family during his absence, and we wish him a speedy recovery,” they began. “We have a strong and experienced leadership team in place, and our priority is to support our players and continue the work underway to further lead the PGA TOUR and golf’s future.”

The Dallas Express contacted the PGA Tour and was told no additional details are available at this time.

The PGA TOUR season continues this weekend with the 123rd U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club.
