Pavelski Named to NHL All-Star Team

Dallas Stars Catain Joe Pavelski

The Stars’ Joe Pavelski was elected to his NHL Central Division all-star team on Thursday, January 13, one day after he scored a career-high five points against the expansion Seattle Kraken for a Dallas 5-2 at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday night.

“Usually, when you have a night where you put a few points on the board, it’s your line-mates that have been really good, which was a big part of the case here tonight,” Pavelski said of his performance. “You know you get a little lucky, win a face-off, and you know it’s one of the empty-netters, so it was good, but the line was great … we had a lot of space in the zone when they’re able to create some chances.”

The 2022 Honda NHL All-Star Game at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on February 5 (2 p.m. CT; ABC) will be the fourth time Pavelski has been named to an all-star game, the 37-year-old’s first time as a Star since joining the team in the 2019-20 season. His other all-star game selections came as a member of the San Jose Sharks.

Pavelski scored twice and had three assists in the win over the Kraken. In 2021-22, he leads the team in points, goals, assists, and power-play goals.

Pavelski’s teammate Jason Robertson saw his consecutive point streak at home reach 11 games in the win against Seattle on Wednesday. On Thursday, the NHL announced Robertson is among thirty-two players on the ballot in the 2022 NHL All-Star Last Men In fan vote. NHL fans are asked to vote in four of the thirty-two selections, one from each division.

The All-Star Game will feature a three-game tournament, played in a 3-on-3 format, showcasing teams from each division. The NHL says each of the four teams will include nine skaters and two goalies.

Robertson, age 22, in his second NHL season, is second on the Stars team in points with 32, third in goals with 13, and second in assists with 19. In Wednesday’s game against the expansion Seattle Kraken – the game marking the first time the two teams have ever faced off – the Stars led wire-to-wire in the 5-2 victory.

The Stars got goals from Roope Hintz, two for Pavelski, Robertson with one, and one from Jani Hakanpaa, the first of the year for the defenseman and the fourth of his career.

Jake Ottinger was in the net for the Stars and stopped 20 of the 21 shots he faced. The win pushes the 24-year-old goalie’s record on the season to 9-2-0 and gives Dallas an 18-13-2 record, good for 38 points and sixth place in the Western Central Division. Twelve points separate six teams, with Nashville leading the way with 50 points.

On Friday, the Stars were in Sunrise, Florida, to face the Panthers, and fell in a 7-1 loss.
